The Liver Colour German Shepherd Dog has rarely been seen in the UK,

The photographs above are of Liver/Brown/Chocolate colour gsd's,
I personally prefer to call the colour chocolate.
The colour is now classed as being undesirable instead of formerly a disqualifing fault.
The breed show ring followers have a long way to go before they will accept the colour, even though the colour has always been in the breed. Many show breeders in the past have admitted they would have and will kill pups at birth if they are this colour,it is no wonder the colour has become somewhat of a rarity. It is rumoured that this colour carries genetic faults, there is no research or evidence to back that statement up, to date of writing this.
My personal opinions follow and agree with the former founder of the gsd breed Capt Max Stefonitz, that colour makes no difference to the working or training ability of the breed.
Recently there have been chocolate colour puppy's,showing up in litter's from Champion Pedigrees, some of these breeder's are not predudice about the colour,as it makes no difference to the structure, temperament and training ability, unfortunatly the colour is unacceptable in some showrings so is of little use to a show home. However i feel there has been a breakthrough: as decent show breeder's in the uk do not kill innocent puppy's and are now giving these beautiful coloured german shepherd's a chance of life by placing them in good pet and responsible breeders homes where the gene pool for the colour can be expanded and treasured.
